Instead of giving you a wordy verbal recap of my weekend, I’m going to mix it up by doing a purge of my phone photos.
Saturday morning started with a long run of 18 miles. I was so happy with the way this run went. I had my doubts about whether I would be able to run even close to 18, given how my body had been feeling all week. But after a lot of stretching, rolling, and icing my legs and feet felt great once I started going and I ran what is easily my best training run yet.
Sunday was cross-training day. I did a 15 minute elliptical warm-up and then a circuit-workout from Nike Training Club. The workout included a 5 minute warm-up, three rounds of this circuit which also included 2 minutes of basketball lunge to medicine ball presses after the plank row (my handy iPhone screenshot won’t fit everything), and then 5-minutes of cool-down stretches. It’s been a while since I did NTC workouts and I forgot how much I like them.
I finally took the plunge on two big running-related purchases that I have been putting off for a while. I signed up for the Midtown Race Series Half Marathon in Raleigh on September 21st. I have been considering doing this race as a break from the training monotony and a gauge for where I am in my training pre-marathon. With the race being less than 2 weeks away, I figured it was time to finally register. I also had been going back and forth about buying a second pair of running shoes for shorter runs and speedwork in hopes of making sure my Nikes hold up well until the marathon. The amazingly nice people at Brooks had given me a discount code back when I contacted them about my problems with the Glycerin 10’s. (By the way, I was really impressed with Brooks’ willingness to give me a discounted pair of shoes when I feel like so many other companies would just say they can’t do anything for me in that situation. What a great company!) This seemed like a sign that it was time to give the Brooks Pure Flows a try. I can’t wait ’till they get here! Let the obsessive package tracking stalk-fest commence!
What was the best part of your weekend? Anyone run a race this weekend? Tell me about it!
