Last week was madness. I took the previous Thursday and Friday off work for the holiday weekend not expecting that a hearing I had to be at for work last week would end up lasting well into Friday instead of ending Wednesday. Between driving back and forth to downtown Raleigh every day, hurrying to organize last minute exhibits, changing flights for our witness and shuttling him back and forth from the airport. I was living on giant iced coffees with 4 shots of espresso for the past 5 days. By Friday afternoon I was pretty well worn out and finally returned to my desk to see a mass 100+ email pileup in both my work and personal inboxes. Just what I needed.
This past weekend Jeremy and I celebrated our four years of dating anniversary (which was actually Wednesday but we were too booked up to celebrate accordingly. Celebrations actually started Thursday night with the long anticipated Black Keys concert. It was rainy but they were AMAZING live and well worth getting damp and dirty for.
Friday night we tried out Midtown Grille where we had some delicious steak and seafood (sweet and sour calamari for an appetizer, hanger steak with potatoes and asparagus for me, and scallops with polenta for him – all of it was fantastic) before walking very slowly and lazily next door for a movie. We saw World War Z which I wasn’t sure I would like but really did.
Saturday started late (a much needed sleep in) but we eventually got our act together and drove Downtown to our favorite pizza place, Lilly’s. We stuffed ourselves full of specialty pizza loaded with pepperoni, sausage, red onions, green peppers, tomatoes, and garlic. I was in heaven (as any lover of pizza at my level would be). The skies opened up and by the time we left it was POURING. I was thrilled with my wardrobe choice at this point; hello white dress in a torrential rainstorm.
Next stop was the local Big Boss brewery where they do free tours every second Saturday of the month with $1 beer samples to go with it. We hadn’t been before and would definitely go back.
We did some window shopping at Crabtree Mall, picked up our dog-child from the doggy salon where she was getting her hair did, and relaxed for the afternoon. Basically we were just waiting until we had a reasonable excuse to eat again. When those circumstances occurred we journeyed to Yardhouse where we shared a flight of beer and had another awesome meal.
Sunday was a rest day. You may have noticed there was no mention of exercise in that day by day rundown and that is because I did not, in fact, exercise all weekend. So really what I mean is that I took a rest day from eating ridiculous quantities. Unfortunately, my plan to take a break from eating while making a triumphant return to the gym was thwarted because by Sunday the week had gotten the better of me and I was feeling really sick.
So now I’m sitting here watching Netflix in the same spot I have been most of the day. I stayed home from work today and I can just envision the 100’s of emails multiplying. Yuck. I watched all three of the new Batman movies in the past 48 hours. Impressive, I know.
Two days of rest has done me well and I hope to be back at my desk tomorrow and back in my running shoes as soon as I’m feeling able. I am getting particularly anxious about the latter because marathon training was supposed to start TODAY! Who manages to stay healthy for months and gets sick the day before marathon training starts!? This girl.
Back to Netflix, cough drops, and Lysoling everything in my house I go!
